The historical centre of the city of Opava is lined by a ring of municipal parks, like a green necklace. Walking through this green oasis you encounter examples of all styles, from gothic, renaissance baroque and secession up to contemporary architecture.

 | Rectory of the Silesian University, a building originally serving as a garrison command and military barracks, constructed in 1914 according to the
design of A. V. Sutterheim. Following comprehensive reconstruction from 2001-2003 the building has housed the Rectory and the Mathematical Institute
of the Silesian University. |

 | Breda department store was constructed within a mere 14 months in 1928, at the time the largest department store in the country. This reinforced
concrete structure with six above-ground fl oors and two underground fl oors was also designed by the architect Leopold Bauer for the Breda-Weinstein

 | From here we are right in the vicinity of the Minorite monastery with church of the Holy Spirit. In its core an originally gothic complex from the 13th
century has been reconstructed several times over the centuries. In the middle ages the church became the last resting place of the Opava Premyslids. |

 | Former evangelical church in neo-gothic style with secessionist details, originating from 1898. Today the town archives have been gathered here and
are available to the public for viewing. |

 | Petr Bezruč House of Culture, building constructed for the Business and Trade Chamber of Commerce in 1908-1910 according to the design of the
Viennese architect Leopold Bauer, who is also the author of the internal decorations and furnishings of the building. The frontal façade is decorated by
sandstone reliefs with allegories of crafts. Today the building houses the Petr Bezruč Library and the Chamber of Commerce. |

 | Spořitelna (Savings Bank), an interesting building in the style of German Neo-Renaissance, designed by architect Karel Kern. The fi gural decoration
depicts business, agriculture and crafts. Extensive reconstruction was carried out on the building in 2004-2005. To the right of the building towers one of
the most valuable medieval monuments in Opava the Concathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary from the 14th century. After a fi re in 1758 this
important document of Silesian brick gothic was refurbished and decorated in baroque style. |
